  1. The ranking
  2. The latest on the most mentioned
  3. Rising, most positive, most negative
  4. Coverage by sector
  5. Common questions

The In the news page ranks the instruments by how much the financial press is writing about them, and shows whether that coverage is rising, and whether its tone is positive or negative. It is a map of attention.

#The ranking

Open In the News in the Finance section bar, or select In the news on the overview's Most mentioned card.

The In the news page: a switch for 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days, tabs for all, stocks, crypto, funds and markets, and a table of the most mentioned names with a bar for the number of articles, the change against the period before and a sentiment bar

The most mentioned names. The bar and number are articles; the badge is the change from the period before; the colored bar is sentiment.

  1. 1Count the last 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days
  2. 2Narrow to stocks, crypto, funds or markets
  3. 3Articles, and the change against the period before
  4. 4Positive, neutral and negative articles
  • Use the buttons at the top right to count the last 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days.
  • Use the tabs to narrow the list to Stocks, Crypto, Funds or Markets, such as indexes and commodities.

For each name the table shows:

Column Meaning
Articles How many finance and business articles in the 4Search index name it in the headline, or in the text beside its ticker. An article counts once for each name
In headline The share of those articles that have it in the headline
Sentiment A bar of positive, neutral and negative articles, and the word Positive, Mixed or Negative
Outlets How many different outlets wrote about it on its busiest day
Price and Today Its current price and change

The badge beside the count is the change in coverage against the period before: +38% is 38% more, and new means it was not mentioned in the period before. If the last 24 hours have not been counted yet, the page says so and points you to the 7-day view.

Sentiment is the index's own reading of each article's tone. It describes the writing, not the company.

#The latest on the most mentioned

Below the table, the top names each get a few of their latest headlines, the number of articles and the sentiment word. The link under each name opens all of that name's news.

#Rising, most positive, most negative

The right-hand column of the In the news page: a Rising card of the names whose coverage is growing fastest, and a Most positive card, each listing names with their article counts and sentiment

The side column. Rising shows who is gaining attention fastest; the other two cards rank by tone.

  1. 1Rising: coverage growing fastest
  2. 2Most positive (Most negative follows)
  • Rising: the names whose coverage grew the most against the period before.
  • Most positive and Most negative: the names with the most positive and the most negative tone, among those with enough articles to judge. The page notes the date counting began.

#Coverage by sector

Coverage by sector adds up the mentions of the companies in each sector, with a sentiment bar, so you can see which parts of the market are getting the attention.

#Common questions

Is more coverage a good sign?

No. Coverage can be about good news, bad news, or a stock being in the headlines for its own sake. The sentiment bar helps, and neither is a forecast.

Why are some well-known companies missing?

The list shows the names with the most articles in the period. A company with little coverage in that window will not appear.

How is this different from Market movers?

Movers ranks by price change or volume. This page ranks by how much is written. See Market movers.
